Referee bribed in Chelsea vs Barcelona 2nd Leg Champion League?

Posted by pilotHans on May 7, 2009 in My Stories |

Final result : 1-1. Barca win only away goal

There are 3 aspect that can favor a team in winning in Football. A great team, luck and also the referee judgment.

Tonite, referee Tom Henning Øvrebø denied a few penalties for Chelsea. I was shocked to see this, and Ive seen WC and Euro referee blunders, but not as bad as this. Constant denial of penalty without a doubt and assisting the linesman, seem to fishy. It’s very fishy and questionable that the ref might be influenced by something. Not confronting the linesman when something major happened and is obstructed by major of players,  is like having no doubts at all or just having denial.

The red card to Abigail was also shocking when he was suppose to get in in the 1st half for dropping drogba. There were at least 4 penalties that should be given(debateble). Including piques handball(he clearly admit after the game)….The reff should have at least assisted the lineman or 4rd official for advice during that vital time….

The only thing that I’m satisfied is the referee giving  7mins of extra time(after Barca were clearly wasting time with their subs on 104th minute sub)

Im afraight that the referee will be shoot dead by some fans. Hope nothing happens to him. Thank god he doesnt live in England. Credits to Barca for not giving up.

Additional Referee info :- EURO 2008

In Euro 2008, Øvrebø was selected for the first time over his fellow country man Hauge. He took in charge of 2 matches in the group stage and in both matches his assistants seem to have made some grave mistakes. Øvrebø had the quality to admit he had made a mistake during the match between Italy and Romania: he was not assigned any more matches to referee at Euro 2008.

Referee address : boy do i wish I could help :p

It does appear to me that the referee of tonight’s Champion’s League semi-final match between Chelsea and Barcelona did not want the spectacle of two English teams meeting in the final to repeat itself. The dominance of English teams apparently could undermine the promotional value of the competition, I must admit. If this were so, it was still the worst refereeing I have seen in years. Chelsea perhaps played against the man in black (not Barcelona) and no one can beat the man in black. If this (stopping Chelsea) was not the referee’s intention, he should be advised take to refereeing boxing – and not spoil the beautiful game for its ardent fans.
